We had a problem. Our shepherd can go from bath to bath without developing that "stinky dog" odor that we all hate. Our Labrador mix could be bathed on a Saturday and would reek by Tuesday! We tried several different chemical shampoos and bathed her every week. She didn't smell as badly giving her a weekly bath (although her scent was never what we would call good--not even neutral), but she was miserable. The chemical shampoos dried out her skin and made her itch and made her fur coarse. The first summer we thought she was just a heavy shedder as she lost all the hair on her abdomen and although she never actually had any bald patches other than her abdomen, her fur continued to fall out.
Through the advice of our dog trainer, we stopped bathing her so often. We could live with the stink if it kept her from being so miserable!
We used a bar of our own soap on her after about 3 weeks as we could not stand the smell any longer. This was developed for people with dry skin with a mild scent that did not linger on the skin (some fragrances can aggravate dry skin). We had used it on ourselves and knew that it was a good moisturizer and hoped that it would help our Lucy's dry, itchy skin.
Wow! After one shampooing, her fur was much softer and she did not scratch continuously after her bath like she did with the commercial dog shampoos! We immediately began doing research and came up with our own dog shampoo bars! Before we ever used these on our own pets, we bathed with the soaps ourselves! If they were not good enough to use on our own skin, we were not going to use it on our dogs! Even our veterinarian commented how soft her fur was and we gave him a couple of bars to try.
Lucy no longer loses the hair on her abdomen and she sheds much less than she used to!
Thus was born the line of 'Tinky Dog shampoos. We have scented and unscented shampoos and all produce the same results--our dogs stay clean smelling for over a month, their fur is soft, and their skin is no longer dry and itchy. We don't use anything else on our dogs and we know once you try it that you won't want anything else on your best friend either!
A good quality mild shampoo and good quality pet food (Life's Abundance) will reduce your dogs odors and may help reduce allergy problems as many are food and chemical related. Click on our Healthy Pet Food menu link for more information on dog and cat nutrition.
This is our most popular item. Great for your dog. The natural oils in this shampoo bar contain ingredients known to soothe and moisturize the skin. Softens fur and makes both poochie and owner very happy. Made with saponified olive oil, coconut oil, palm oil, and soybean oil with cocoa butter and Shea butter.
Cleanses well, moisturizes skin and softens the coat. Keeps that "doggie smell" away for up to a month. Kept out of water between uses, this bar can last up to a year depending on the size of your dog and frequency of bathing. We have two 50 pound dogs who are bathed monthly and one bar lasts over 3 months!
Mild scent and dye free bar with no essential oils which cats can be sensitive to. Please see a great short article at http://cats.about.com/od/housekeeping/a/aromatherapy.htm for more information and a list of essential oils to avoid.

Being pet lovers, we also wanted something mild for our cats that gave similar results.
Although you will find tea tree oil in many pet shampoos, none of our Castle Hill Pet Soaps contain it. It can be toxic to cats and other animals and we wouldn't risk using it on our dogs. We also wouldn't want someone in a multi-pet household like ours getting the dog and cat soap mixed up and possibly harming a beloved cat by applying tea tree oil.
Because we live in a cat and dog household and our Castle Hill Cat and Dog Shampoo Bars look similar, we have completely discontinued the use of all essential oils in our dog shampoo bars because there are several that can be harmful to cats. We wouldn't want to risk accidentally using a dog shampoo on our cats that might cause harm. Please see an excellent short article at http://cats.about.com/od/housekeeping/a/aromatherapy.htm for more information.
